WHY IS THIS INSPECTION REQUIRED?
This inspection is required to ensure that fire blanket equipment is in place, is easily identifiable and available and is in good working order. This inspection is conducted by a SafetyWallet partner on behalf of the user, on the user's site and forms part of the annual inspection process for fire blanket equipment inspections in the workplace for the user.
WHY IS THIS INSPECTION IMPORTANT?
This inspection shows that regular checks are made within the business with regard to fire blanket equipment inspections. This means that planned actions (in relation to fire blanket equipment) can be checked upon for progress or completion and new gaps identified that may relate to the readiness of fire blankets in the workplace. Once identified, these gaps can be prioritised and a plan of action determined to ensure they are resolved so that all fire blankets are ready when needed. This also means an inspector can see that regular checks are being made concerning fire blanket equipment, meaning the employer is being compliant in checking the workplace and proactive in identifying new concerns and resolving these. In cases where a fire does break out, these inspections may be important as evidence to show workplace emergency readiness, where legal concerns or financial claims may be involved.
INSPECTION FREQUENCY
This inspection needs to be conducted every 180 days (every six (6) months) as part of the annual inspection process.
This means that when ordering this type of inspection, the order should be made for the total number of inspections required for an annual cycle:
The inspection is required every six (6) months = 2.
The number of times per year = 2.
The annual number of inspections = 2 (add this product 2 times in the SafetyShop).
VALIDITY
This inspection needs to be conducted by a fire team member or person competent and appointed to do so and also needs to be signed and dated by that person. The inspection must be kept on record and made available to any interested parties who may wish to see it or refer to it at a later time.
HOW DOES THIS WORK AS A CONTROL MEASURE?
In the hierarchy of controls, this inspection forms part of the administrative control measures which should be in place to ensure that emergency equipment inspections are conducted on a regular basis within the business. This inspection covers the details for fire blanket inspections to be conducted in the workplace and ensures checks are made on control measures implemented for fire prevention and protection so these remain suitable and in good working order.
