Description
WHY IS THE TASK-BASED RISK ASSESSMENT REVIEW REQUIRED?
The Risk Assessment Review is important for the purpose of confirming whether Risk Control
Measures have been implemented and are effective towards the management of risk exposure
related to the specific task in the workplace.
WHY IS THE TASK-BASED RISK ASSESSMENT REVIEW IMPORTANT?
The Task-based Risk Assessment review enables the employer to make sound judgements on the
improvements to be undertaken for the minimizing or elimination of risk in the workplace as is
required by the Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993. The review is not only required
when a process has changed or new equipment is introduced, but also once an incident and/or
accident has occurred related to the task, which shows that current controls have failed, or are in
danger of failing.
VALIDITY
All risk assessment reviews need to be documented by means of the completion of a control
measure checklist and Planned Task Observation Report, which must then be kept in the Health
and Safety File of the company for future reference as well as for viewing by the relevant
stakeholders with the interest of Health and Safety at work.
