WHY IS THIS INSPECTION REQUIRED?
This inspection is required to ensure that all material hoists are suitable for use and maintained in good repair so they remain safe and suitable for use. This inspection is conducted by a SafetyWallet partner on behalf of the user, on the user's site and forms part of the annual inspection process for material hoists inspections in the workplace for the user.
WHY IS THIS INSPECTION IMPORTANT?
This inspection shows that regular checks are made within the business concerning material hoist inspections. This means that planned actions (in relation to material hoists) can be checked upon for progress or completion and new gaps identified that may relate to the safety of using material hoists. Once identified, these gaps can be prioritised and a plan of action determined to ensure they are resolved so that all material hoists are safe to use. This also means an inspector can see that regular checks are being made concerning material hoists, meaning the employer is being compliant in checking the workplace and proactive in identifying new concerns and resolving these. In cases where material hoist issues may occur, these inspections may be important as evidence to show that material hoists have been correctly maintained, where legal concerns or financial claims may be involved.
INSPECTION FREQUENCY
This inspection needs to be conducted every 365 days (annually) as part of the annual inspection process.
This means that when ordering this type of inspection, the order should be made for the total number of inspections required for an annual cycle:
The inspection is required annually = 1.
The number of times per year = 1.
The annual number of inspections = 1 (add this one (1) time in the SafetyShop).
VALIDITY
This inspection needs to be conducted by a certified electrician or person competent and appointed to do so and also needs to be signed and dated by that person. The inspection must be kept on record and made available to any interested parties who may wish to see it or refer to it at a later time.
HOW DOES THIS WORK AS A CONTROL MEASURE?
In the hierarchy of controls this inspection forms part of the administrative control measures which should be in place to ensure that construction work site inspections are conducted on a regular basis within the business. This inspection covers the details for material hoist inspections to be conducted in the workplace and ensures checks are made on control measures implemented for material hoists to remain in good working order and suitable for use.
