As an OHS Online user, I have a problem. Following an accident, my employee says he is better and doesn’t need to continue seeing the doctor. Should I listen to him? Why is it important for him to continue to visit the doctor?

This is a good question! What happens when your employee feels better? The answer is that they must continue with the visits to the doctor, until the doctor is happy that the employee has fully recovered and has stated this is so. You may ask, Why? The answer is very simple, when an IOD is reported, it starts a process which has to be seen through to the end. The Compensation Commissioner wants to know that the injured employee recovers fully so he or she can return to their normal duties.

Therefore, only the doctor, in his or her medical profession, can state the employee is better and this is done so with the completion of the final medical report by the doctor.
